Regator - Perfect example of how Africa gets used

Categories: Africa 1 Comment

South African Tourism Social Media

Regator gave Afrigator the biggest complement yet: Can the regator people say copy-paste-find-replace?
Afrigator was scooped right here on Web AddiCT(s); back in April 2007.

TechCrunch covers regator here. ReadWriteWeb also does a Regator blurb followed by Mashable’s regator post. Even though RWW mentioned Afrigator before they did regator they didn’t notice the similarity.
Happens to the best of them.

I’ll leave the regator/afrigator debate to those with a little more time to talk about who copied what and how?

Some more buzz about regator/afrigator:

  • Mike Stopforth - Regator Looks Mighty Familiar
  • Nicharry - Shocking: Regator rip off Afrigator
  • Justin Hartman - Regator.com steals our brand - coincidence?
  • Mark Forrestor - Regator steals Afrigator’s brand.
  • I’m sure stii has something to say too. Yip, he has Regator VS Afrigator

Focus - Essence of (business) micro-blogging

Categories: Twitter 0 Comments

To continue explaining my 27dinner Cape Town Jun 2008 slideshow: The Essence of (business) micro-blogging: Twitter and All it’s friends I’ll go back to the source.

Point 1: Focus

Pick a well-defined area of focus, an area in which you have an abiding interest and an area where you at least have the desire to become an expert, if you are not already. Don’t stray into politics on your caterer’s blog, or talk about your kids on your legal blog. Focus.

Same thing applies to microblogging: Focus!

It’s the small things that count when you’re making YOU the brand. An example will be when referring to this blog, ourselves in third person or this URL.

URL is written or printed it’s webaddict.co.za or www.webaddict.co.za, 301 takes care of both of them. When you refer to this blog: Web AddiCT(s); or any of its authors are a Web AddiCT

It’s tiny but has been our focus for nearly 3 years. Just thought you should know. Now to Focus on Quirk.

Hang on, Telkom owns 50% of Vodacom. The bandwidth they’re (vodacom) charging us an arm and a leg for is being stolen to push idiotic Vodacom banners in our browsers. Screw you guys. Thank you. Come again. Read more about how Vodacom are stealing from us:

Vodacom injects Vlive banners into mobile sites.

Vodacom kills the services that use most of their bandwidth i.e killing all future revenue.

Can i has an Apple iPhone 3g pleaz?

Thanks to Andre Fourie for Sentient Communications for alerting me to this. Hey Vodacom how about stopping the Telkom act and encourage/stimulate innovation.

Vodacom stop killing your income tomorrow, by protecting business models of yesterday, today.

How to Kill the Vodacom Proxy?

So how can you bypass the proxy service?

It’s pretty easy, just follow this process:

  • Tools
  • Settings
  • Connection
  • Access points
  • Vodacom
  • Options
  • Advanced Settings
  • Remove the Proxy server address

Vodacom, Vodacum,  Vodascum, time to hit getclosure.

Dear Rafiq Phillips

Your complaint has been forwarded to Vodacom. No further action from you is required at this stage. Either Vodacom or getclosure! will contact you by no later than Wednesday, 9th July 2008.

What a great way to put getclosure to the test :)

Categories: I love Cape Town 3 Comments

The always wonderful FeistyFemale is onto a really cool blogging promo again. This time for rocking the daisies music festival and digicape.
Now in its third year, this is the coolest festival by far and the fact that it’s eco-friendly to boot, is commendable. (Their pay-off line is PARTY HARD, TREAD LIGHTLY.)

With Matthew Buckland and Vincent Maher making their announcements today, thought I’d add my ‘change in direction’ stone to the pile. The duo are leaving M&G while I’ll be leaving Quirk eMarketing at the end of July.
So I’m going to be taking off the SEM Guru & Web AddiCT hat and officially just be Web [...]

Souja boy, a true Web2.0 success story!

Categories: Web 2.0 2 Comments

About 8 months ago, the name Soulja boy never really existed , DeAndre Cortez Way was just an average guy, doing routine stuff like going to school, chilling with his friends, minding his own businesses, … basically living the ordinary teenage life.
It’s not up until one day, while riding in his car with his friends [...]
